London, 1772, half-vellum, gilt leather title labels, decorated boards, VG; red sides; monogram handstamp to title page; fine clean text; pp.viii,416. An early edition of a futuristic novel which first appeared in 1770 and was published anonymously. Originally thought to have been written by Voltaire, the author label on the backstrip incorrectly ascribes this work to him.
