Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood (1748-1810): 1808 Order, written at Cadiz as Commander of the Mediterranean Fleet, to Captain Hoste in command of H.M. Ship Amphion stationed at Malta, instructing him to proceed to the Adriatic for purpose of annoying the enemy in that sea by every possible means. Signed Collingwood, the order and address panel written in another hand. Fine. [Provenance: sold by the autograph specialists J.A.L. Franks of London, in 1979, with the original invoice]
