Boer War letter from 2nd Lieut. Bartram Romilly, Scots Guards, to his mother Lady Arabella Romilly referring to military actions at Ladysmith & elsewhere, 1900; complete with the original cover endorsed No stamp / on active service, and cancelled BRITISH ARMY S.AFRICA datestamp. Romilly served in the Boer War from 1899 to 1902, was twice mentioned in despatches receiving the Queen's Medal with 5 clasps and was awarded the D.S.O. in 1902.

The Lancashire Plateways proposal, 1882: an archive of documents, plus expenses books, hand-coloured plan etc all in manuscript on paper, chiefly land valuations across Lancashire which outline the route proposed. The Plateways were to have 5” wide rails capable of accommodating rolling stock which could be transferred to roads when arriving at stations. (82 items)
