Alcock and Brown, aviators. A selection of RPs, mostly PU 1911-12, sent by John Alcock to a friend in Heaton Chapel (Stockport), the messages signed “Jack”; the photos (mostly by Fuller of Amesbury) mainly depict aviators engaged in trials of monoplanes for the British Army on Salisbury Plain including a crash landing. The most interesting message however concerns a trial flight in Manchester: Dear Charlie, We are going to make a trial flight on Sunday morning at the Manchester Race Course with the aeroplane. Hoping you will be able to come down & see it. I will write and let you know the time & where I’ll meet you. Jack. Five have messages signed by John Alcock, the others are simply addressed by him to his friend. The cards show wear at the corners (one with a corner chipped away), are a little grubby, and one is ink stained on reverse. (8)
